Federica Lorenzi – SLI participant in 2014

"... I had first-hand experience of Chinese society and market and the dynamism of the capital city. Beijing, an experience I'll never forget! ..."

My name is Federica, I'm a student at University of Verona and it's a privilege to share my experiences in China with you! I had just come back from a period of studies abroad thanks to the Erasmus program when I decided to leave again, to a further place, toward Beijing. Thus, unaware that experience would have held me back, last summer, I participated to the 9th edition of the Summer Law Institute.

The Summer Law Institute is a good study program which combines two different but parallel curricula, intellectual property rights (IP-China) and climate change/environmental issues (SICCEP), not neglecting at the same time the Chinese social, cultural and political background.

I decided to attend the SLI in order to broaden my knowledge of those subjects which are not provided for in my study plan; and to examine closely the Chinese system, a fast-moving reality in all its aspects and a country which economy and society are growing and changing rapidly.

Since the beginning, I had been enthusiast and I became more interested in Chinese matters after listening to those speeches by experienced experts working in Asia. It had been an intensive month which gave us only a taste of what China is and what means dealing with its society but it's a good starting point to deepen the knowledge in future.

Glad about the program and my experience, I decided to stay in Asia. Thanks to the participation to the Summer Law Institute, I had a chance to apply for an internship at the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, Beijing office.

After six months of work at the chamber, I became more professional and increased my knowledge at the same time. The CICC is a group of Italian enterprises operating within the Chinese market and cooperates with both Italian and European Institution in China. The environment is stimulating and there are many opportunities for growth thanks to the seminars on the occasion of which there is the chance to focus on Chinese-related issues about economy, environment, society and the occasion to come into contact with professionals and authorities.

Through the experience at the chamber of commerce, I had first-hand experience of Chinese society and market and the dynamism of the capital city.

Beijing, an experience I'll never forget!

Federica Lorenzi
