I learned about this Summer School program in China through my university (the University of Milan) which offers it among the activities of international scope for its law students. For someone like me, interested in international law issues and not necessarily focused on a career in the typical legal professions, it was an opportunity not to be missed. When I enrolled, I was not prepared for what was going to happen, I had just been selected for a period of study abroad (in Budapest) through the Erasmus project and, with the same recklessness that made me participate in that experience, I ran for this initiative.

When I knew that my application had been accepted recklessness gave way to doubt and even a little bit of fear, in fact China is not exactly like Hungary. In those days I spoke with several people about the experience that I was going to live and I was struck when one of them said to me: "Often we cannot do the things we want, we do not have the skills, the time, the means ... you now have all this, think of those who want but cannot.”

Short time later, I was in China to participate at interesting lessons about IP law and the problems and solutions related to climate change, I have strongly sensitized to these issues although they are not areas in which I would like to specialize. Extremely significant was the contribution of professionals (lawyers, professors and entrepreneurs) who have described their experience with the world of work and the Chinese market and offered useful advice for those who aspire to a future in China. Last but not least, my travelling mates, a closely linked group of people that helped ease the fatigue of a some days (due to the heat and the hours at school), made me learn so much and with whom the friendship born in China and is continued after our Countries.

I do not think that is necessary, nor helpful to tell you something about China, it’s a so vast country; full of contradictions and inequalities, but with an incredible charm. Everyone can take something personal and unique from a so different and rich culture, like Chatwin said: "The journey not only broadens the mind: it shapes it." Personally I do not see my future in China, but I will never forget this experience, and indeed I cannot wait to have the chance to come back and be able to live and travel even more in depth Chinese land, history and culture.

Meanwhile, after completing my studies, I will spend a semester in Brussels, where I will do an internship at the Fair Trade Advocacy Office (FTAO) with which I was put in touch by prof. Farah, whom I thank once again. I leave you, who will enter on Summer law institute website and will read these words, with the same considerations that were placed me at my departure and I tell you: "If you want to, and can, do it", but most of all: "If you want, you can”, as the Anglo-Saxon say: "If there is a will, there is a way", especially in China.

If there is a will, there is a way”, specialmente in Cina.
