The information about the Summer Law Institute in China came from my university as part of the regular newsletter with international department offers for PhD students. I did not think long about the application, because I knew, that these kinds of experiences are the most useful things in a young research candidate’s life. The conditions were not hard to meet; the two topics were interesting and very actual – they focus on problems which are nowadays very pressing and have utmost importance – so there was nothing really to think about. It has been an easy decision. The process of application went smoothly, and I did not even notice all of a sudden I was sitting on an airplane to Beijing.

My expectations were quite normal. I wanted to get to know the culture, experience of life there, to meet new people and of course to learn some new things (I was especially interested in learning about the Chinese political and legal system).

Beside 4 weeks lasting summer programme, I stayed in Beijing supplementary month – as a mobility which was a part of a wider cooperation with prof. Farah through a collaborative research on the Energy Independence through the Renewable Energy Sources. So beside the classes, I had the opportunity to access the library of the Peking University, as well as the database of books and periodicals.

The courses of the Summer Law Institute in China were only a part of my Chinese experience. They were well organized, with a comprehensive selection of subjects in both of the curricula. My expectations of learning about the Chinese legal and political system were maximally fulfilled. The classes were interactive; the dialogues were spontaneous, everybody was eager to share opinions and ideas about the particular topic. This says a lot also about the overall quality of the teachers.

During these intensive classes I have learnt more than during any other summer school I attended. I think the organizers found a well-balanced combination of content and motivation in order to be able to understand and acquire it. Not to mention, that the curricula also included guest speakers and experts from different fields of law that further increased the overall diversity of the classes.

Of course this experience was not only about intense learning and sitting in the classroom. During my stay, I have got the opportunity to see the most amazing places of Beijing, to experience the everyday life of the people, to travel, to do sports (we have played soccer several times against the Chinese students’ team) and to make some new friends.

To sum it up, this has been a unique experience which has had a positive effect not only on my academic carrier and future perspectives, but also on my personal growth.

And the result? A lot of sweat memories, unforgettable moments, further collaboration with prof. Farah in the U.S., and the possibility to do research within important multidisciplinary fields of law in the future.

I can recommend it to everyone.

A Summer Law Institute in China nyári egyetemről először az egyetemünk rendszeres hírleveléből értesültem.
