"For me, the summer school was not the end by itself... I took the decision to apply for Erasmus Placement at gLAWcal, and it enhanced my skills, especially my English, and it made my professional profile more international."

I decided to take part to the summer school program for many reasons. First at all, I believed that it would have been an experience that enriches both my professional and personal experience.

I considered environmental and intellectual property issues (subjects of the two curricula) interesting and a living matter. It also seemed to me that those themes were unreasonably neglected within the university academic environment. Moreover, I found that the interactive approach of lectures, along with the multicultural context, and Beijing location endowed the program with sort of added-value, even though I had never before participated to a summer school.

I must recognise that the summer school generally met my hopes and expectations. It was extremely challenging and useful attending lectures and conferences, doing team-work with the others students from other Italian and foreign universities, preparing oral presentations and overcoming exams. Meeting Chinese culture was surprising. I had the opportunity to discover unexpected sides of this complex and controversial society that I would have never understood, without a direct experience.

Above all, for me the summer school was not the end by itself. I received a scholarship from “Fondazione Cariplo”, for students-participants to the summer school, before leaving to China. Later, at the end of the program, when I got evaluation certificates, I was assigned an award from association Algiusmi of Milan, destined to summer school students that managed to get better results in the exams.

These awards represented for me, above all, a personal and professional acknowledgement, not only an economic support that spurred me to keep on dealing with these issues.

Finally, thanks to summer school newsletter, I took the decision to apply for Erasmus Placement in Liverpool at gLAWcal – Global Law Initiatives for Sustainable Development. My experience abroad was very useful: it enhanced my skills, especially my English, and it made my professional profile more international.
